Brothers William and Sam Crary arrive in Ute, Iowa, a small farming community in Northwest Iowa. They establish their law and insurance office, the combination of which was common at the time. They ride their horses throughout the farming region to sell insurance and offer legal services.

Hff history 1920

After the death of William Crary, Sam moves the practice to Sioux City, Iowa. Together with William’s son, Ralph, they begin building the Firm in Sioux City and adding partners.

In 1954, Wallace Huff joins the practice and the Firm becomes known as the Crary Huff Law Firm. In 1967, Wally’s son, Stewart, joins the Firm after his return from serving in the Army.

Hff history 1996

Crary Huff celebrates its 100 year anniversary. Bruce Crary addresses the crowd at the celebration held at the Anderson Dance Pavilion.

Hff history 2006

Former Crary Huff partner Daryl Hecht is appointed to the Iowa Supreme Court. Daryl was previously appointed to the Iowa Court of appeals in 1999, joining a long line of Crary Huff attorneys appointed to the bench, including Ralph Crary – Woodbury County District Court (1944), Robert Clem – Woodbury County District Court (1989), and Steve Jensen – First Judicial Circuit Court, South Dakota (2003), South Dakota Supreme Court (2017), Chief Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court (2021).

Crary Huff moves to its new office space at 329 Pierce Street in Sioux City, marking the modern era of the Firm.

Hff history 2022

Crary Huff is one of the largest firms in the Siouxland region with specialized practitioners providing legal services in a wide range of practice areas.
